First aired: October 14, 2009
Rating: Loved
Recommended for people who enjoy food, short stories, and/or dramas where each episode focuses on a new character and centers on one particular theme (in this case, a particular Japanese dish); bonus for fans of existential literature and philosophy.
I wasn’t really expecting much when Shinya Shokudo showed up on my radar (I’m not really a fan of the thirty minute series format), but I was in the mood for a drama about food, and it seemed to at least satisfy that qualifier. I figured I’d give it a shot – if I didn’t like it, I’d only be out half an hour. Five hours later, I decided to never again judge a series on the minute count.
