There comes a time in every drama addict’s life when she starts to view a not-too-new but interesting looking series only to discover (a couple episodes and two hours later) that she’s already seen it. Or maybe not. Maybe it’s just me. In any case, to avoid this from happening again, I’ve finally decided to log all the glorious – and occasionally not so glorious – shows my Asian television addiction uncovers. Enter at your own risk, for once you fall down the drama rabbit hole, it’s impossible to climb back out.

Recommended for foodies and those looking for comedy mixed with insights into traditional Japanese food culture; bonus for fans of Aoi Yu.

I was thrilled when I heard Kikuchi Shota’s manga Osen was getting a live-action drama, but as news about the cast started to trickle in, I started to have some misgivings. I love Aoi Yu, but I wasn’t really sure if she could capture the Handa Sen (Osen) character, and I’ve never been an Uchi Hiroki fan, so that was an immediate bummer. When I sat down to watch, though, I quickly grew to enjoy the drama’s tone, no matter how it differed from the manga. Aoi’s Osen ended up being a total charmer, as was the entire series.
